Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Benchino ("Benchino", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use the Benchino mobile application and related services.
1. Information We Collect
Account and profile information
If you create an account, we may collect information such as your email address, username, display name, profile photo, profile details, and authentication-related information.
Location information
Benchino may request access to your device location to show nearby benches, calculate distance, help you place a bench on the map, provide directions, or support location-based features. Depending on your device settings, location may be precise or approximate.
User-generated content
Information you choose to submit may include bench names, descriptions, categories, accessibility details, photographs, memories, comments, reports, saved collections, favorites, and other content you create in the app.
Photos and camera access
If you choose to upload a photo or take a new photo, Benchino may request access to your device camera or photo library. We only use this access when needed for features you choose to use.
Technical and usage information
We may receive technical information necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service, such as device and app information, error information, timestamps, and service logs.
2. How We Use Information
We may use information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve Benchino.
- Create and manage user accounts.
- Display benches, profiles, photos, memories, and other community content.
- Provide nearby, map, distance, navigation, and location-related functionality.
- Save favorites, collections, achievements, and user preferences.
- Prevent abuse, investigate reports, moderate content, and protect the community.
- Respond to support, privacy, and account-deletion requests.
- Diagnose errors, improve reliability, and protect the security of the service.
3. Public Content
Benchino is a community-oriented application. Content that you intentionally publish, such as bench information, photographs, memories, comments, or profile information, may be visible to other Benchino users or the public depending on the feature. Do not publish information that you do not want others to see.
4. Service Providers
Benchino may rely on third-party service providers to operate parts of the service, such as authentication, database hosting, file storage, maps, and infrastructure. These providers may process information on our behalf as necessary to provide their services.
At launch, Benchino uses Supabase for backend services such as authentication, database functionality, and storage, and uses OpenStreetMap-based map data or related mapping services for map functionality.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Information may be shared with service providers when necessary to operate Benchino, when you intentionally publish content, when required by law, or when reasonably necessary to protect users, our rights, or the security of the service.
6. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide Benchino, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud and abuse, and maintain service integrity. Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information and why it is processed.
7. Account and Data Deletion
You can initiate account deletion using the account-deletion option available in Benchino, where supported, or follow the instructions on our Delete Account page.
When an account is deleted, we will delete or anonymize personal information associated with the account unless we need to retain specific information for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or other legitimate reasons.
8. Your Choices and Permissions
You can control camera, photo-library, location, and other device permissions through your operating system settings. Some Benchino features may not work correctly if a required permission is disabled.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. However, no online service or storage system can guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's Privacy
Benchino is not intended for children below the minimum age required to independently consent to use an online service in their jurisdiction. If we learn that information has been collected from a child in violation of applicable law, we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
11. International Processing
Information may be processed or stored in countries other than the country in which you live, including locations where our service providers operate. Applicable data protection safeguards will be used where required by law.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
